Groundbreaking new research shows that by grabbing hold of the three-step “loop” all habits form in our brains–cue, routine, reward–we can change them, giving us the power to take control over our lives.
“We are what we repeatedly do,” said Aristotle. “Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” On the most basic level, a habit is a simple neurological loop: there is a cue (my mouth feels gross), a routine (hello, Crest), and a reward (ahhh, minty fresh). Understanding this loop is the key to exercising regularly or becoming more productive at work or tapping into reserves of creativity. Marketers, too, are learning how to exploit these loops to boost sales; CEOs and coaches are using them to change how employees work and athletes compete. As this book shows, tweaking even one habit, as long as it’s the right one, can have staggering effects.
In The Power of Habit, award-winning New York Times business reporter Charles Duhigg takes readers inside labs where brain scans record habits as they flourish and die; classrooms in which students learn to boost their willpower; and boardrooms where executives dream up products that tug on our deepest habitual urges. Full of compelling narratives that will appeal to fans of Michael Lewis, Jonah Lehrer, and Chip and Dan Heath, The Power of Habitcontains an exhilarating argument: our most basic actions are not the product of well-considered decision making, but of habits we often do not realize exist. By harnessing this new science, we can transform our lives.

finished reading of this amazing book. The book is based on numerous research …
“You will never look at yourself, your organization, or your world quite the same way”(Daniel H. Pink, bestselling author of Drive and A Whole New Mind)Finally, finished reading of this amazing book. The book is based on numerous research studies about habits. The interesting thing about it is Duhigg’s wonderful storytelling style through which the reader goes on an unforgettable journey by bunch of real attractive stories about different individuals. The reader starts his journey from the human brain and how habits work there, then flies over different organizations which successfully implemented habits and finally the book lands at the habits of societies and social patterns and explains why they are important in social movements. If I was the minister of education, I would definitely make reading of this book obligatory for all the students! Recommend it to all.Thank you Charles Duhigg author of The Power of Habit#book #improvement #life #businessA part of the book’s prologue:” “All our life, so far as it has definite form, is but a mass of habits,” William James wrote in 1892. Most of the choices we make each day may feel like the products of well-considered decision making, but they’re not. They’re habits. And though each habit means relatively little on its own, over time, the meals we order, what we say to our kids each night, whether we save or spend, how often we exercise, and the way we organize our thoughts and work routines have enormous impacts on our health, productivity, financial security, and happiness.”

I salute you
Who is this book for : Everyone(Should even be mandatory)Structure of the book :I like the approach in this book. It is not a book where you will find statements such as : “This should be done this way”. It targets the source of habit by giving us a look in the life of influential individuals and organizations using an impartial view. I appreciated a lot that the author was not giving his own opinion but instead a theory. He was allowing me to use what he has brought to my attention to form my own conclusions. How to read it:This is not a book you should read in 1 day. I would not recommend reading more than 1 chapter per week if you really want to harness all the information contained in this book. For someone with ADHD, I found this book was a must. Do not skip chapters. All chapters are connected to each other for form a whole and are meant to be read in a sequence.Would I recommend this book :Definitely. Someone who is looking to start a company will adore this book. Students who want to achieve academicals heights. Someone who does not like his job and is afraid of changing fields. Someone who wants to climb the corporate ladder. Someone who wants to stop making the same decisions.Value/Cost :This book is worth 50$ at the very least. I paid less than the 3D movie I saw yesterday and I dont even get to keep the 3d glasses.

This Book Will Change Your Life.
I first read this book when I was a curious, broke and ambitious 18 year old fresh out of high school. And maybe that’s a situation you’re currently in, trying to figure out what you want to do with your life.At the time, I was mixed in between starting my own financial services business while pursuing the dream of playing college hockey. And between both ventures, I wasn’t really succeeding at either of them. So I challenged myself to sit down and really figure out how successful people got real successful. And fortunately at the time, one of my virtual mentors (or one I aspired to be like) in business happened to be Ed Mylett, a multi-millionaire inside the company I was working at. Today he now has his own show “The Ed Mylett Show” one of the biggest podcast shows in the world under business and personal development category. If you do some scrolling, one of his first podcast episodes called “Unlocking Your Success Code” published in 2017 has never left my brain since. Would recommend giving that a free listen and you’ll understand why I’m sharing with you this message.Back to the point, some say there’s certain rules to follow and level of ambition you must have to achieve the big goals you aspire for. And yes, you got to dream big to live big. But ultimately success isn’t built over night. It’s built with small actions everyday and that’s what people never talk about. You must accept that fact you won’t feel motivated to do things everyday even if they align with your future goals. And that’s exactly why “show me your habits and I’ll show you your future” holds true to every human being. Luckily for you, today you have a chance to understand how to create ones that work for you.

I’ve listened to the audiobook; had to get the physical book for my library
This book is a total eye opener to the “Power of Habit”. I strongly believe that everyone who reads this book , and APPLIES what is taught will experience great change in their life; myself included. Buy this book, listen to this book, apply this book!

Blink, the sequel
This is a bit of a Malcolm Gladwell copycat book, but it provides useful new information and also has a brief appendix for those who want to apply some of the information from the book to changing a habit or two of their own. If I hadn’t read “Blink” first, I might have rated this book more highly. It is easy to read and contains interesting and useful information. I would recommend reading both “The Power of Habit” and “Blink”.
