    A short but very enlightening read.Andy, as always, manages to spin a very mindful and positive view on all matters. He also manages to tie some positive connotations on scary points like pain in a nice way.Obviously, this is more useful for someone actually going into labor but still a good read for a partner as he doesn’t deal with some overall anxiety-inducing points in general.

    El primer capítulo lo dice todo. A partir de las siguientes páginas, puede llegar a ser muy repetitivo. Yo esperaba que incluyera ejercicios específicos para sobrellevar de manera meditativa el trabajo de parto pero en realidad no incluye muchos ejercicios. El libro parecía más un ensayo basado en la experiencia personal y no en la investigación y el análisis desde una postura académica. Interesante desde el punto de vista anecdótico, no tanto como una herramienta para sobrellevar un parto.

    I was interested to read the Midwife’s review on 22nd June as I really enjoyed this book and found it extremely useful as a tool for further understanding and embedding mindfulness during my pregnancy (i’m 31 weeks). I agree with the Midwife that being empowered during labour and making intentional decisions, pushing back on medical intervention (where appropriate) is hugely important – I guess I have that philosophy already from our hypnobirthing course and read this book focusing mostly on the mindfulness aspects of pregnancy and birth (but not everyone has benefitted from hypnobirthing so it’s a valid point). I also liked Andy’s realism and that he wasn’t suggesting that mindfulness alone will make pregnancy, birth or parenting a breeze.I think using the headspace app prior to reading, made the book much more impactful for me as I could really relate to what he was saying and I could more easily relate to and understand how to apply the exercises written at the back of the book. I’d strongly recommend trying the headspace app (first Take 10 programme is free).

    This book popped up on my suggestions one day on Amazon shortly after we found out we were expecting, and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase! Very well-written despite the initial skepticisms being written. It helps you understand your mind and how it works so that you can provide the best vehicle of like for the little one inside and the transition it takes from rob to world.
