Customers say
Customers find the frying pan to be a good choice for cooking. It heats up nicely and cooks evenly. The build quality is well-received, with customers expecting it to last a long time. They appreciate the heat retention and insulation from the handle. Many find it easy to clean, with an excellent handle and stickiness. However, some customers feel the surface has a rough texture, especially compared to most carbon steel pans. There are mixed opinions on the weight.

Cast Iron performance without the weight!
This pan is significantly lighter than comparable cast iron pan. It heats up nicely and cooks evenly. Definitely glad it came with a silicon holder because the handle, without it, is not comfortable. So glad I added this to collection!

Pleasantly surprised and happy with my purchase
I read reviews about how this pan can be just as nonstick as Teflon pans and I was extremely skeptical. However after a half dozen uses I am pleasantly surprised, my eggs definitely slide off the pan! It’s not cheap but I love that this will last much longer than my tfal and I don’t have to worry about the chemicals that may or may not be leaching into my food. The only thing I’ll put out there is that this is definitely not “lightweight”. It’s lighter than cast iron yes, but it is definitely much heavier than your typical nonstick pan. I don’t personally mind, but I thought I’d mention this.

Solid pan, great choice
Some carbon steel pans are smooth on the cooking surface. This one has a slightly rougher surface. Although it comes pre-seasoned you do need to season it some more, but it’s not a hardship at all.Omelets and eggs slide around nicely after seasoning, and clean up is good as well. A smoother cooking surface would make it even easier. The removable orange silicone handle is excellent and insulates perfectly.Definitely recommended.

Excellent pan
Excellent for camping or home. Once properly seasoned it’s very easy to keep clean. Although it has a bit of weight to it it’s still lighter than a cast iron pan.

Disappointed with quality
Usually happy with the the quality from previous Lodge cast iron pans. This is sold at a heavy premium and because of the rough finish, both on the cooking surface, and especially the sharp edge on the rim, I had to return it immediately.

Love this pan
Works great on an induction top. Good for when you need high heat for searing. I like that it is pre cured. I have another carbon steel pan that wasn’t pre cured and have had a heck of a time getting it to black, nonstick. You will of course have to have some patience to build up a truly nonstick surface and it will never be as good as the true nonstick pans but you cant use those on high heat and there are concerns about additives in them so this is the ideal pan for me.

Average performance, but more versatile than some
The Bad: The pan is higher in the middle – Lodge says they designed the pan this way to prevent warping and that it will flatten when heated. Unfortunately, this is not the case (at least not for my pan). When heated, the the pan does the opposite of what Lodge claims and domes higher in the middle. This causes oil/grease to run to the side of the pan and results in uneven cooking temperatures and thus unevenly cooked food (which is not supposed to happen with carbon steel). The texture of the pan is rough, which means food tends to stick more than it would with other brands of carbon steel pans that typically have a smoother surface. The pan is also lighter and thinner and it heats up faster than some competing carbon steel pans, which results in more fiddling with the temperature settings while cooking (this could be a good thing depending on what / how you are cooking as the pan responds faster than other brands do when you change the heat setting on the stove). The Good: The pan is versatile. Unlike some of its French manufactured competitors, the handle is not coated (the orange silicone handle covering can be removed) so you can toss it in the oven at high heat for a long period of time or use it directly on a campfire. The price is also less than many competing products and the pan seems built very well and should last a long time. The ability to use this pan anywhere (stove, campfire, BBQ, camp stove, etc.) is in my opinion the best feature of this pan. If you don’t need this versatility, I would recommend spending a few more bucks on one of the French made carbon steel pans (they will ensure you have a more consistent cooking experience).Overall, this is a decent pan – a 3/5.

Non-stick, without eating teflon bits
Yeah, it’s heavier than an aluminum teflon-coated throwaway fry pan, but transfers heat better and lasts forever. Plus you’re not eating teflon when it inevitably gets scratched up. Your choice.

It is heavy. It is cast iron. But it works.I just need to get used to it.

Just what I was looking for, a good, heavy steel skillet. (I almost never rate anything “5-star”.) I now can save my (mostly Lodge) cast iron from frying uncured meat which usually results in my having to re-season it. It’s not “slick” like my well-seasoned cast iron, but there’s no need to worry about scraping it after use-no injury to the cooking surface. Just grease it well before heating, and most stuff doesn’t stick. No toxic “non-stick” surface of wonder-chemicals that turn out to be cancer-causing decades later. It passed the test of browning ground meat for chili-didn’t stick and cleanup was easy. Heating is even, though the bottom may not be perfectly level (I’m not sure. It seems to be “close enough”.) The extra-long handle seems to be designed for campfire cooking-a little unhandy for stovetop frying as well as storage. The 10-inch version fits standard electric stove eyes very well (Main reason I bought it-already have a 12-inch Revere ware stainless skillet inherited from Mama-too big for present range.) The silicone rubber handle protector (easily removable for oven use) is a bonus. I’m sure it’ll outlast me! Would definitely buy again- Lodge wins again!

Given so much has changed since chemically induced nonstick pans were invented. This is a classic comeback in the way it changes our perspectives on non stick. Beautifully created and easy to handle. I many situations, carbon steel is much better than cast iron.
