I think there are a lot of these self help/self appreciation books out there, that are fads or preachy, but this isn’t one of them. It lays out some Asian philosophical methods factually, analysese them, and talks about ways you can use them to improve your life. Its written in a fairly matter of fact way, so not sensationalist or over the top at all. IN particular, I already had some knowledge of Ikigai, and I really believe in it, so it was good to see some further analysis of it, but also discussion how it fits into other principles (like Kaizen). Lingshi I am not so interested in!I think the only problem I had with it was that I expected more on the Japanese strategies – tho book covers them, but also wanders off discussing more general things like health – for instance, there is a chapter on setting up a gym and what equipment to buy! This isn’t something I expected in such a book on Asian philosophical principles.Overall, I was very impressed with the work, there’s a lot in it, its been well research and the layout and format is very professional. I think I will get the paper copy as its something I would like to refer to.Worthy purchase for someone thinking about changing their life!

The author pulls together a useful set of philosophies and explains how to put them into practice, in an integrative way, quite clearly and practically.I think it hits the mark as a self-help book with universal appeal. My only criticism is the homogeneity of the examples – I wondered at some point whether it was written on assignment for single, young male students.
