Financial Joy by Ken and Mary has been an empowering and uplifting read so far. Over the first two weeks, it has helped reshape my view of money not just as a tool, but as a source of joy and purpose. The tone is refreshingly approachable, blending financial wisdom with encouragement and relatable examples. Week 1 focused on cultivating a healthier mindset around money, emphasizing gratitude and aligning financial choices with personal values a refreshing contrast to traditional finance books that prioritize rigid strategies. In Week 2, the book introduced actionable strategies, such as identifying spending patterns and differentiating between needs and wants. I especially appreciated how these practical tips were combined with emotional awareness, encouraging reflection on the habits and feelings behind my spending. The journaling prompts stood out, helping me better understand my financial behaviors. As I approach Week 3, I feel optimistic about what’s ahead. One suggestion for improvement would be adding more examples or case studies from diverse financial backgrounds to make the advice even more universal.Overall, Financial Joy is both practical and inspiring. Ken and Mary’s perspectives make the content engaging and relatable, leaving me feeling confident and excited about creating a joyful financial future. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking guidance on financial matters or looking to cultivate a positive and fulfilling relationship with money.

This book a life changing book and I highly recommend it! It is a step by step guide on how to deal with debt, grow your money and achieve financial freedom. It is very detailed and provides a number of alternatives on how to build several sources of income throughout your life. I have read a few books on how to build wealth and achieve financial independence over the last couple of years and this is the only book that I found that is focusing on the UK market, making it more relevant to me.What makes this book a must read as well a companion throughout your financial freedom journey is the fact that it doesn’t focus only on the financial aspect but also on the wellbeing aspect as well. We don’t necessary think about our wellbeing when trying to deal with debt and/or pursuing financial freedom but it is fundamental. Is it worth becoming financially wealthy and be miserable, to the detriment of your health (mental, physical and spiritual)? Nope.I started following Ken and Mary in November 2023 and I have learned so much since then. I wish I did years ago, which could have helped me avoid some pitfalls in my financial journey, some of which I am still dealing with the consequences today. However, as with everything in life, it’s never too late to start over on a blank page.I have read the book in one go but I vow to go back to it and follow it step by step and taking the necessary actions. My first action is to fight, and eventually get rid off, the employee mindset that has been holding me back for so long!I know it will take me years to implement all the steps but now I have a plan which is part of my strategy.Thank you for writing this guide and I highly recommend it to anyone who is on a financial journey, no matter your age or at what stage in your life you’re starting from.

This book has the potential to change the lives of a generation. There are lots of books on finance and financial freedom out there and I dare say this is one of the best and most important ones for a generation. These are the things I LOVE about the book:* The interviews – Interviews with people who have been on this journey and people you can connect with. There’s nothing better than seeing that what the authors write about is tested and works. What makes it better is that with the variety of people interviewed, you can picture yourself doing it.* Tackling the ‘Root of the Fruit’ – The authors have done a brilliant job of helping us (readers) understand where the root problem for not reaching your financial goals comes from. They offer practical guides on how to break out of them.* Clear and Simple Communication – Anybody can pick this book up and will be well understood.* It goes beyond inspiration—some books leave you inspired, and that’s where the story ends. This book is different. The authors hold you by the hand and guide you through the same path many have used (including themselves) to achieve financial joy.* Great illustrations, examples and life scenarios.I can’t praise this book enough. It’s hard to put down, and it all makes sense. My advice: Simply grab a copy, and you will thank yourself later. I’ll grab a few more as gifts for loved ones.

This is my favourite financial book! Enjoyable, easy to read, knowledgeable, comprehensive, practical and my favourite part is each chapter has actionable steps to follow. This is key! It’s more than a book it’s an actual plan, a road map. If you complete each chapters actionable steps this book well and truly will unlock financial freedom exactly as they claim. I have implemented so much since reading it and now have a solid plan. This makes me feel excited, safe and secure. Thinking of finances and financial planning is now a joy. To list a few of the things implemented as a result of reading this book: I have followed the % mentioned and put my money to work whilst putting aside a weekly fun budget, which for me has massively relieved any spending guilt as I know what I am spending is accounted for and purposely put a side. Set up a separate account for said budget and also numerous pots for places I now put my money. Went through my existing side hustle costs and reduced my expenses therefore making more profit. Started a second side hustle, downloaded a spending app and task/reminder app and have all my tactics, financial reviews and investment checks scheduled (it’s amazing how even with the best intentions how many things you can forget…not anymore!) Remortgaged our house (we actually started this before reading this book however the book definitely kept me motivated through the very tiresome and lengthy process and kept me persevering) we now have a much, much better rate meaning we can make bigger overpayments and pay our mortgage off quicker! There has been much more in between but in summary I now feel confident and I know what to do next and how to do it. If you use this book it is a game changer! I have since bought two extra copies for friends and families. Thank you for making this available and an enjoyable experience!

‘Financial Joy’ is the perfect title for this book. It’s brought me so much joy already! I’m reading my copy now, and have to stop every 10 minutes or so to absorb yet another revelation or insight. ‘Financial Joy’ is gold dust! It’s one of the best personal finance books I’ve ever read, and I’ve been reading them since the 1990s. It’s up there with ‘Your Money or Your Life’ by Joe Dominguez and Vicky Robin. It’s full of relatable stories by the authors, packed with fascinating insights and genuine first-person case studies explaining how the techniques have worked for individuals, couples and families. Ken and Mary ground their work in their own lived experiences and those of the people they have helped since The Humble Penny was founded. They are honest and open about what has worked for them, and it’s also clear that their success is due in no small part to how they express their faith values through their work. What really sets this work apart is the sheer diversity of stories from different communities. It contains a solid acknowledgement of international cultural influences and approaches to finance. Although this book is written from a UK perspective, the personal finance principles it outlines apply internationally.A must-have for every personal finance bookshelf.
