How to Take Care of a Cast Iron Product:

When preparing to use your cast iron, please remember it does come pre-seasoned however, it does work best if you continue to use oil in the pan. When you are finished cooking, and the cast iron has cooled down, please use hot water and a sponge or stiff brush and wipe the pan out. If any food remains stuck, you may use kosher salt and warm water to work the food of the pan. To finalize this process, please hand dry the cast iron. Cast iron is not intended to be put into a dishwasher or washed with soap.

soapsoap

Dish soap & Hot water:

Cleaning a dutch oven after using it is simple and only involves soap and hot water. You might need an abrasive scrub pad to remove pesky food residue, but the most important rule is to avoid steel wool and other metallic pads or brushes. Run hot water, add a few drops of dish soap, and scrub off food residue with your non-scratch pad. Rinse away soap suds, then dry the pot thoroughly with a towel. You’ll have an easier time cleaning your dutch oven when it’s still hot, so wash it as soon after cooking as possible.

drydry

Hand Dry:

Never let cast iron cookware drip dry or stay wet for extended periods. Immediately after rinsing it (or after boiling water), completely dry your dutch oven with paper towels or a dedicated cast iron cloth. Cast iron cookware has a seasoned coating that will blacken the cloth you use to dry it. Use paper towels or a dedicated cast iron cloth instead of your best kitchen towels.

oiloil

Oil After Each Use:

Place the dutch oven on the stovetop, set the burner to medium-low, and heat the pot until all traces of water have evaporated. Add a half teaspoon of vegetable or flaxseed oil. Use paper towels to coat the inside of the pot with the oil, then continue to wipe the surface with oiled towels until it’s black and smooth. Oil the surface lightly after each cleaning. Flaxseed oil is the best choice for seasoning cast iron cookware. However, since you’re just giving the coating a quick touch-up instead of full re-seasoning, it’s OK to go with vegetable oil.

  2. Fake Name

Appears to be as advertised, big nice and heavy duty, mostly exterior casting defects.
Measured as 12qt by dumping in 2x6qt pots of water. Seems accurate and as advertised. I may have spilled some and my floor is a bit sloped but seems close enough to exact or even maybe room to spare. It’s a big heavy duty pot, much more wide than tall, only a little taller than pots 1/2 the volume but much wider. Had a thin coat of seasoning on the exterior covered fully but will season again before use I think.Had some small casting defects, little 1-2mm pits on one side but only on the exterior. I’ve seen brand names inset about as deep so it shouldn’t put a hole in the pot I should hope. There’s no branding on this one. The interior is fine. The handle also has some bumps beneath but appears to have been machine smoothed on the top for some reason, maybe this is where the iron flows into the mold for the lid or something? The interior is fine and I hope the exterior defects will not compromise performance or durability. They will probably fill with seasoning or even shifting crystallization of the iron in time with care and use I hope. Some people might return the item over that but I’m going to accept it and use it. I’m not sure that these casting defects fall outside their regular quality standards for this brand. They do not render the cookware useless or unfit for sale unless advertised quality standards would say otherwise I suppose. Perhaps if they were on the interior though that could be a more serious problem for rusting and pitting. I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 5 though based on the small pits and other small casting irregularities plus the fact that the seasoning needed to be redone immediately before use due to rusting after volume testing. It’s still the best value for the money on a cast iron pot this size I can find. Plus others from this brand may be more flawless and if they are perhaps they deserve 5 stars and this one is an irregularity. After volume testing and drying with heat in the oven I saw there was some brown and blue rust on the inside. So the starter seasoning was old and dry and thin or thin to start with and not enough to do more than preserve the pot in the open air as long as it did without rust. Thus I am seasoning immediately, no worry about rust remove since there isn’t a lot of it and it might become magnetite with coaxing. Just season over top with a nice thick coat of oil and a slow smokeless polymerization and 300~F for several hours then cool then repeat several more times until dry then finally at 400F then 500F to finish it.
