Fantastic dutch oven!
I have to admit that this is the first cast iron dutch oven I’ve ever owned, so I was really looking forward to trying out a few different meals with it.I was thrilled that it was pre-treated, so I could start to use it right away.Of course I made a few things in this pot that I didn’t need to make like soup and pasta, but I really was looking forward to trying was bread.Well I present to you my first boule (round loaf) of bread! This is a simple bread to make, and it turns out incredibly well. The secret is to make sure that your dutch oven is plenty warm before you put your dough in, as well as put a few scratches into your dough for that great cracked look.It takes about 5 minutes to prepare and only 4 ingredients to make.Ingredients are as follows;1-1/2 cups of warm water (90-110 degrees)1 packet of 8oz quick rice yeast1-1/2 teaspoons of salt (I use sea salt, but table salt will do…..it just gives it a bit more salt taste).3-1/4 cups of all purpose flourAdd your yeast and salt to your warm water and stir until it’s fully dissolved in a separate bowl. Then pour that over your flour (which is in its own bowl), and mix together until all the dry ingredients are gone.I did this by hand, but if you’ve got a stand mixer then use that.If by some chance you still have a lot of dry ingredients (which you really shouldn’t) then just add a dribble of water to your mixture and keep turning. If it’s too wet, then do the same with the flour. When all mixed place a fresh clean towel over the bowl and set aside in a warm space for 2-3 hours (or until dough has doubled in size).Put your fancy new dutch oven in the oven and preheat it to 450°F, and then give it another 20 minutes so that the dutch oven is nice and hot.Just before your time is up, tear off a large sheet of parchment paper and add a small dusting of flour to it.Take your risen dough and plop it onto the parchment paper and gently mould it into a nice round shape.I lightly dusted the top of my dough and then cut some lines into it, but you don’t have to do either if you don’t want to.Take the dutch oven out of the oven, remove the lid and place the parchment paper with the dough on it into the pot and replace the lid.Put that in the middle of the oven for 35 minutes at 450°f and let it cook. When the 35 minutes is up take the lid off and let the bread cook for another 5-10 minutes…..or until it’s a nice golden brown colour. You can always check and see if the bread is done by placing a toothpick in the middle of the bread and see if it comes out clean or not.If it doesn’t come out clean then put it back in for another few minutes. When done take the bread out of the dutch oven and let sit on a wire rack for at least an hour. You can cut into it earlier if you want, but the longer you let it sit the better and less gummy your bread will be.

Excellent Value for a High End Cast Iron Pot!
Now, this is a pot! Not only beautiful, but the best functioning pot you can buy! Many people – professional chefs to ordinary folks – swear by the results. This pot is very solid. The lid alone, weights in at 1524g (a bit over 3.5lbs). The pot comes in at 3524g (about 7 1/4lbs) This is one heavy-duty cooking vessel!I love the fact that there are no attachments – the pot and lid are both a single piece. The finish is the same – everywhere, it’s that wonderful black, crinkle finish. Everywhere you look, this pot by CuisiLand says “quality”. With some basic care, this pot will literally last generations. You read hundreds of recipes that talk about using cast iron, about the cooking properties that make it so unique, and the excellent results one can achieve. (Of course, it’s not a “magic pot”. You can certainly make a meal that’s NOT so good, but that’s not the fault of the pot! Just to be clear…!)Bottom Line – In the provided “Care Book”, at one point it states, “… with all things precious, it needs to be treated with love, care and respect”. I think that says it all!

Surprisingly nice, with a few bonus build changes over traditional brands.
Has the weight and build of traditional cast iron dutch ovens, with no notable manufacturing defects. The top handle is actually a bit unique when compared to the myriad of dutch ovens I have at home; instead of two screw heads protruding out the inside of the lid, this one is… somehow sealed. It seems that it’s just a solid mass of cast iron making up the interior of the lid, leaving less room for problems associated with multi material ovenware. Cooking wise it seems to function the same as my other dutch ovens; honestly I don’t find a great deal of variation in functionality between them, except for the one dud ceramic one I got where the surface coating peeled off on the inside of the lid. Overall I really like this dutch oven, and it’s more than competitive with other dutch ovens at its current price ($69), if not slightly cheaper.

Easy Cast Iron Dutch Oven for Kitchen Use
Never used this outdoors, but it’s been great in my kitchen! The pre-seasoning was decent, though I was initially confused by the instruction to cook fatty foods first – wish they’d explained why. Once I figured it out (made a batch of bacon), it’s been perfect for bread and stews. Handles are solid and it heats evenly.

Good quality cast iron with no enamel!
This cast iron dutch oven is 5 quart (4.73 L) in size. It’s a really nice medium sized dutch oven for a family of 3-5 people. This dutch oven has become my favourite for baking sourdough bread and is now my dedicated sourdough bread maker because of its even heat distribution. It’s the perfect size for a 2-3 pound loaf. I like that this cast iron dutch oven is not enamelled and the entire pan is made from cast iron. Because of the high walls, it’s also great to use for deep frying on high heat so I don’t have to worry about destroying my non-stick pots. This dutch oven is well made, comes with a cast iron lid and is the perfect size. I season this dutch oven after every other use by heating the pan and adding a tad bit of oil and rubbing it to fully cover the inside of the pot. Because oil goes rancid really easily, I make sure to use this pot once a week.
