Much better sound than Dot 3rd Gen.
I first bought 2 Echo Dots 3rd gen. They were ok for most purposes but hardly adequate for listening to music, which I do more often than the other capabilities.So I returned one 3rd gen and bought this 5th gen on sale Black Friday week. It took a few days for the speaker to settle in (which most speakers need), and now it sounds just right for any kind of music. It has a good tonal balance for listening nearby, as I do. So is great for couchside or bedside listening at moderate levels. No complaints in this regard.It is very good at picking up speech from 20 feet away, even when it is playing music. We have to be careful not to say Alexa or she wants to know what we want ;-)So far we use it for powering on/off 2 sets of Christmas tree lights, and a tabletop lamp near the trees.There are many brands of electrical devices it can control. If it says Alexa on the boxes, they work. Just plug them in and Alexa searches for (and finds) those new devices.It is small and doesn’t overpower the other things on the small table it is on. See photo.I listen mostly to Amazon Music, some Spotify free, and TuneIn radio for CBC radio music.The only “con” is that it comes with a white power cord no matter what colour Dot you get.

The call feature drops
While I don’t understand that when I order from Amazon they seem to be shipped from out of province and I pay for the 1- 2 day membership… so I’m waiting roughly a week to get my *prime* items…Anyway.The product itself works nicely. Although when calling the call drops or disconnects and the other party cannot be heard. Even so when calling another dot that is placed inside the home (main floor, to second floor) 🤔 hence the 4 starThe design Is also nice, cute little bubble. Fits nicely in smaller spaces *bookshelf, or small side table etc.*Sometimes when Alexa responds with her blue light and she is asked to do something she *hangs up* ha kinda like asking a teen to do something and they just close the door in your face. Or give a dirty look before walking away.Otherwise, these little dots are decent. I’m able to play my podcasts through an app on my phone to connect to the dot. It’s a little extra work and the whole idea was to not have to touch my phone in order to place certain things, but for some reason it hasn’t panned out that way for me. But I’m sure I’ll figure that out. Or just continue to use my phone for that feature. 🙄Other than that, I’m sure there’s more. But had only just received this item.It’s fairly easy to navigate and it’s a decent price considering the newer models on the market today.
