I am a yoga and meditation teacher. I got these to use for guided mediation / contemplative meditation, thinking that (since I am not an art teacher) it would be convenient to have the artwork pre-chosen with some prompts written out that I could use/adapt.The only thing I like on the cards is the quote from the artist. Those are kind of interesting to me. The cards are the size of a normal deck of card (the dimensions I am sure are in the listing, but they did appear larger because they are zoomed in in the listing photos). The size of the artwork is about 1/3 of the card size… basically, you can’t see any details and most of the art is highly detailed. I wanted to use one card with a group… but even if I passed out a card to each individual, it is still hard to see the artwork– which is the point of these… to meditate on the image.As another reviewer mentioned, the prompts themselves are a little esoteric. With some tweaking, they might be thought provoking… but they aren’t relaxing or help with anxiety if that is what you are going for. I actually wouldn’t have mind thought provoking as long as they were easy to think about… these give you a headache.The card quality is terrible for a deck of this sort. It’s very thin card-stock. There is no finish to them so you can’t wipe them down if they get dirty or covered in fingerprints. In the listing photos, they have rounded corners, but the deck actually has sharp, untrimmed corners that will become misshapen/bent with use. They don’t feel good in your hands, and the quality seems cheap.Design-wise, there is not enough visual rest space/white space on the cards. They look busy and they don’t make you feel calm when you look at them.I don’t recommend these.

You get a set of cards with tips relating to anxiety and serenity. The cards are thick enough, the content and images are well chosen and well executed, and the box has a QR code that links to related online resources. If someone has an anxiety disorder, this won’t substitute for working with a healthcare professional, but it could be a helpful adjunct, and for the many folks who are sometimes anxious but so intensely to merit a diagnosis code like 300.02, this could be an even greater help.

I am so happy I came across these! I have a veeerrrrry long and messy history chock full of trauma in various forms. This means that I have quite a variety of triggers, and that once I do get triggered it is extremely difficult to keep my thoughts from spiraling. I’ve been working with my therapist lately on trying to figure out how to get myself untriggered then when literally every single thought I have can be related back to a trigger in some way. So, you know, when I’m already triggered, my brain is even more likely to bring forth other associated triggering things. My therapist advised me then to focus on replacing the triggering thought with a very simple concept because something like a color is associated with so many things that it’s not *particularly* associated with anything. My fiance expanded on this a little and suggested I replace those thoughts by focusing on the mental image of a classic piece of art. The very next week I came across these!So that’s where I’m coming from in trying to use these; they’re essentially a part of an emergency kit to distract and ground myself after sudden and intense triggers. It’s almost perfect for me! The art pieces are beautifully rendered, have the artist and title written at the bottom, and on the flip side, they have prompts to think more in depth about the art, that makes it an actually immersive activity: things like, “imagine wind flowing in the brush strokes of Starry Night,” or “focus on the man’s face; what does his expression seem to imply about his mindset or thoughts?” It’s really good for drawing you in and distracting you!Here are my reasons for not being able to give this a higher rating than 3 stars:1. The print is so light in color, against a light background, and so small, that it’s actually difficult to see; that’s not exactly conducive to keeping one’s attention even if they aren’t triggered.2. The paper quality of these flashcards is SO weak. The paper is INCREDIBLY thin, like… really just like a dollar store index card. It’s a half step above actual computer paper. These aren’t going to stand up to much use, especially while triggered or anxious and not necessarily fully aware. And I also would’ve liked to be able to shuffle them, but they just aren’t thick enough.3. One of these cards features a SPIDER. This is INCREDIBLY poorly thought out. Spiders are one of the most common fears, thought of as scary enough that they’re a staple in Halloween decor. And they decided to put one in a deck of cards made for dealing with *anxiety.* It uhhh, sure was a choice. Imagine my surprise when I, an arachnophobe who associates spiders with trauma, saw a giant, creepy, red legged spider in my window, decided to pull out the anxiety cards to focus through it, and flipped over a card with a giant (and I mean like building-sized) spider and prompts to focus on it referencing things like webs. This… was a BAD idea folks. I cannot imagine what inspired them to seek out practically the 1 in a million pieces of classic art that focuses on the subject of what is globally cited as one of the most common phobias (i.e. causes of anxiety). What a decision. Personally, I will be throwing that card away.

I actually bought these so I could display one on a little easel each day where my middle school kids make their lunches. I like that they can become familiar with historical art and artists. And I love it for this! There was even a question on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire about one of the paintings the day after I had set that one out, which was fun. The kids knew what to picture right away!So, I can’t say a whole lot about the anxiety/mindfulness exercises that are on the back. I do love the short little blurbs on the front though!
