‘Full of wisdom and comfort … a really important book’ CHRIS VAN TULLEKEN, author of Ultra-Processed People
How can we embrace our non-negotiable limitations? Or make good decisions when there’s always too much to do? What if purposeful productivity were often about letting things happen, not making them happen?
Reflecting on ideas drawn from philosophy, religion, literature, psychology, and self-help, Burkeman explores practical tools and shifts in perspective. The result is a bracing challenge to much familiar advice, and a profound yet entertaining crash course in living more fully.
Meditations for Mortals takes us on a liberating journey towards a more meaningful life – one that begins not with fantasies of the ideal existence, but with the reality in which we actually find ourselves.
Addressing the fundamental questions about how to live, it offers a powerful new way to take action on what counts: a guiding philosophy of life Oliver Burkeman calls ‘imperfectionism’.
To be read either as a four-week ‘retreat of the mind’ or devoured in one or two sittings, Meditations for Mortals will be a source of solace and inspiration, and an aid to a saner, freer, and more enchantment-filled life in 2025.
In anxiety-inducing times, it is rich in truths we have never needed more.
‘Thoughtful, level-headed, and useful … a book to meditate upon’ THE TIMES
‘Oliver Burkeman has a way of giving you the most unexpected productivity advice exactly when you need it’ MARK MANSON, author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

Hugh Culver-author Give Me a Break –
The book I have given out the most.
After reading 4000 weeks, I couldn’t not buy meditations for mortals. It turns out this is the book that I have since given out two more friends than any other book I’ve read in the last decade. It’s almost as if Burkeman has taken stoicism to a new level and made it both readable, but also practical. If you care about how you use your time and how you use your life get this book.

An outstanding, practical, humour-us, helpful book
Nailed it!. The perfectionist tendencies, that cause so much grief, and lost living, are addressed so honestly, tenderly, and with humour.Thank you!

Some interesting stuff but not worth the $
Yes, there are some interesting thought in this but in general, it doesn’t amount to much and I don’t recommend that you buy it. You could just as easily find such advice online for free.

Could care less.
Political views or biases got brought into this book with Meditation in the title., that is what I was trying to avoid. As a conservative I could care less for the content here, it takes away from any postive dialogue.

I never write reviews, but I felt absolutely compelled to after finishing this wonderful book. It found its way into my life at just the perfect time—right when both my work stress and personal life felt overwhelming. Before diving into the craziness of each day, I made it a ritual to read one chapter while enjoying my morning coffee. It was the best way to start the day, offering a truly great perspective.I underlined so many passages (which I never do!) to revisit later because the insights were that valuable. The author’s writing style is engaging, and the book is clearly well-researched. I’ve already set a reminder to read it again next year.If you’re on the fence about buying this book, don’t hesitate—just do it. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

What a calming, smart, fun read, I really enjoyed it!I read a chapter each morning over 4 weeks, I guess this made the reading experience much more satisfying for me than binging it away in an evening as usual. I can recommend this! Thanks, Oliver Burkeman, for this wonderful book!

Highly recommend this book. I bought this book because I really enjoyed the four thousand weeks by Oliver Burkeman. It is very nicely written and do not get confused that this book is about meditation.. It is not about meditation rather about provoking thoughts in brain as one reads the book. It is about practical advice as to how to lead life in present while acknowledging one’s imperfections. It is not your typical self help book.. The content is not overwhelming it has nice quotes and practical advice for example a coach or a friend urging you to take action instead of thinking too much about taking action one fine day! I do not want to give it away but I especially liked the chapter on being like a kayak vs superyachts You will not regret the purchase!!
