I Knew I Needed This As My Braava 380T Was Starting To See It’s Age!
I thought I’d jump on the sale on Prime Day for this unit since I’ve owned the Braava 380T for several years and it was getting a little tired. I was hesitant to go with this unit at first as I’ve become so accustomed to the 380T’s performance but it was time. Now that I’ve owned it for a week I thought I’d give a review seeing that it’s now performing above my expectations. What I’ve found is that you MUST place the charging unit somewhere where it’s going to stay before starting it’s first dry mopping mapping run. I found this out the hard way as I changed the base’s location afterwards and it was impossible to add new found rooms to my map!So on it’s first initial run please try to put the charging base where you know you’ll always have it. Don’t worry to much in thinking it might be to far from a room your concentrating on cleaning cause the mop will travel great distances! Up to 1000 square feet they claim and I’ve found it is very accurate! Also if you think you will just use it to clean without using the iRobot App then you’ll find yourself very limited in its functions as it does need the app to do most everything in setting boundaries, thresholds, no go zones etc. Some people have claimed that the mop won’t go over thresholds, I did find mine was having an issue coming from a bedroom in where it would always freak out and spin circles when exiting its cleaning job a at the door jam threshold. Eventually it would give up and flash a red circle and that was it!I set a threshold to each doorway that has them and even placed a tiny no go zone to the right of the door jam where it freaks out and now it cleans perfectly and exits the room! The cleaning is pretty thorough also in that you can set the amount of liquid (I use just water) from Eco-Standard and Ultra each time it sprays! Same with the amount of overlapping each time it makes a pass on your floors, you change it from a little, more or a lot! What this does is ensures you get the right cleaning. This can be done anytime you use the app and select a room or rooms to clean in the app as you’ll get the option to enable these then click on Start! When a job is large and it senses it will not finish before its battery exhausts it will return to the base and charge enough to resume and finish its task. After each wet mop job I always try to remember to remove the wet pad and wash it in the sink with a little dish detergent and let it dry otherwise the pad will develop an unpleasant odor!I’ve not used any detergents in my mop to date and same with my previous Braava I’ve always just used water to clean my vinyl floors!Overall I’m 100 percent happy with the M6!

    Low Expectations Unmet
The old Roomba Red vacuum was best of breed, back in the day, but iRobot just hasn’t kept up. And the vendor lock-in is limiting too. I did not have high expectations for a robot mop, but it just is not physically capable of mopping well. The manual and warrantee call for a special, expensive cleaner. With those, it leaves streaks, on wood or tile, and the streaks are in crazy, random patterns that are highly visible. Other users have recommended walking in front of it, manually spraying better cleaners, and mopping manually at any spots in its path. This pretty much defeats the purpose of the robot. Possibly voiding your warrantee, or some future custom cleaner formulation could help, but likely not.iRobot AI used to be the best, and a large number of small problems with the mop may be mitigated by future software updates. After 4 months, there have been no software improvements. The new ownership may change this situation for the better, or for worse. The manual warns if you have dark tiles the robot may just refuse to go there, and there is nothing you can do. I have not had this problem. It is possible to help the robot negotiate low thresholds in doorways. I have one threshold a couple of millimetres too high, and it just falls down and gets stuck, so I have to block off that room. It keeps shutting itself in a bathroom so it can’t get out, which is kind of funny, the first few times. It’s also fun trying to teach it how to map your home, but be prepared to invest a large number of hours in that, and then do some manual edits to the maps. iRobot was surprisingly good at guessing what some of the areas were, and laughably bad at finding other things.Getting the mop to start, or go home, is the first problem. The manual warns you need several metres of free space around the base, and keep relocating the base until you find a place that works. In a smaller home, this can be a problem. With only one or two metres clear around the base, the robot just goes around in circles and gives up, either trying to leave to mop, or after it gets close to the base trying to return. Moving the mop to another room and starting by hand works, and carrying it back to the base after it is flashing red and warning it gave up finding home base also works. Hunting all over the house to find where it is when it got stuck can be a fun game for the kids.It takes a long time to mop a small apartment, but the battery holds up. For a larger home, you’d need to mop in stages one area/day at a time. There are some plusses. The size and shape of the mop is good for a small apartment with tight spaces. Except for turning around, or docking and undocking, it is quite good getting under and around furniture and corners.Vendor lock-in is a big limitation for me, now there are so many home IoT devices. It can wait for an iRobot vacuum to finish before it starts, but if you have other smart devices, such as SmartThings, you may be stuck programming iRobot separately. There is an IFTTT plugin option, so if you’re a hacker, you can use that to code some routines to fit it in with the rest of your house. Amazon uses iRobot to spy on you and sell information about your home, but you can talk indirectly to iRobot through an Amazon Alexa. I have had mine disconnect and lose the settings, had to re-connect and do the Amazon integration over again already. But getting an Echo warn you when the mop is stuck, or asking for help to find the mop can be useful.Next time I might try one of the Samsung robot mops for more flexibility and newer features. If you already have only iRobot, this might be ok. This mop is quiet, and doesn’t scare the cat. It just tried to push the cat out of the way, and no bad altercations so far. But it’s a lot of money for a toy that’s only fun for a few weeks.

Good mopping, takes a bit of learning
Takes a bit of getting used to.Pros:- Good mopping. It is good at cleaning and going around thoroughly and hitting every spot. I like that it’s compatible with Bona and that it can do dry, wet, and hardwood.- It does save a lot of time. We have a decent sized house and it will change how often we deep clean now. Time savings is huge.- Good tank size. A full tank can do a single floor easily and maybe 2 depending on the size of your house.- Changing pads is plug and play, very simple.Cons:- Bad mappingI wasted a lot of time trying to push it over. Fortunately I bought a J7+ around the same time and there’s a way to import the map that the j7+ makes. The J7+ has significantly better mapping and tracking. It’s like watching a dumb robot vs a competent one.- Getting stuck. It’s horrible with thresholds because I think it thinks a threshold is a carpet so it avoids it. You need to use the app to indicate what’s a threshold on the map.- Bad AI. It’s pretty dumb. It gets stuck in small spaces and it moves random vs the systematic movement of the J7+.Overall it’s a great mop, it just needs the newer mapping and tracking technology. Having another Roomba with good AI is a huge help.

It started out working well paired with the S9+ vacuum. After about a year, it started having navigation and left wheel problem. It would just go around in circle. Followed the recommendation by iRobot I’ve replaced both wheels, but it did not resolve the issue. Contacted iRobot, it said it was likely a PCB problem, but they could not offer any solutions and it was “unrepairable”. For such an expensive device and only worked for about a year….I could not recommend this product.

    Worth every penny.
