At first glance this little book might look like a story book for young children, but a closer look at the title indicates that it is actually a healthy eating guide for young families. This little gem provides accurate and science based nutrition information in a child-friendly way using an adorable, culturally diverse cast of characters called the “Super Crew” who each have a super power based on a color of (mainly) plant based foods. The book is full of creative activities for children and parents (or teachers) which can be done together such as making fruit infused water, fruit salad or overnight oats. A good portion of the book is dedicated to lists of foods, grouped by color, which could form the basis of an entire curriculum, all reinforcing the concepts of eating a healthy and anti-inflammatory diet. Because there are so many interesting ideas and activities, this is a book that can be used over and over again. One of the best parts of the book is the “Just for Parents” section at the end of the book. There are so many clever ideas and practical suggestions for establishing healthy eating habits in young children without sounding “preachy” or judgmental. There are a lot of simple and practical recommendations for creating a healthy eating environment for both children and parents alike. If you are looking for a good resource guide for teaching young children about healthy eating and good nutrition, you will definitely find it in this fun, entertaining and practical book.

I love this book! You’ll find useful tips and activities about food and nutrition as well as beautiful and colorful illustrations throughout. This book is for families who want to foster a positive and healthy relationship with food for their children. Also, educators will appreciate that they can use this book as a resource within their health/nutrition curriculum. This is a practical and well-written book by a top kids nutrition expert.

This is a fun guide that follows after two other books by the author. ( “Havoc at the Hillside Market” and “Super Baby Abigail’s Lunch Time Adventure”) Each character gets a super power from the colorful foods that they eat. This is a great visual for kids and a great way to encourage them to eat new healthy foods. One of my students loves the color green. He saw that Jessie got her power from green foods. He had never tried avocado but was excited to try it simply because Jessie got her powers from green foods. Kids can’t see the nutrients in foods, but they can see the Super Crew powers. What a brilliant way to introduce healthy eating to children!

I just received this book in the mail and I LOVE it! I am an expecting mother, so figured I would get a jump-start on how to teach my child to eat healthy, but this book can be used with or without children. It is super easy to read and follow along. The book shows different ways to incorporate plant-based foods into every day life and fun activities that are great for kids to follow along and inspire them to try new foods! It also has super helpful tips and reminders for mealtime eating and how to help kids expand their food choices. Highly recommend to any parent out there, especially one who is looking for a healthy lifestyle change or has a picky child!

As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist I love finding fantastic resources like this book! It uses a simple and fun approach to what can at times seem like a daunting task with kids – teaching them about healthy, colorful foods, and encouraging them to include these foods on their plates. Plus, it makes learning about nutrition and trying new foods exciting for them. I love how each character is introduced in the beginning with their favorite foods and their superpowers. The bingo at the end is fantastic to help encourage kids to do the different book activities to elicit behavior change! Definitely recommend it as a book to do with your younger kid, or to have your older child do on their own!
