A practical and spiritual guide for working moms to learn how to have more by doing less.
This is a book for working women and mothers who are ready to release the culturally inherited belief that their worth is equal to their productivity, and instead create a personal and professional life that’s based on presence, meaning, and joy. As opposed to focusing on “fitting it all in,” time management, and leaning in, as so many books geared at ambitious women do, this book embraces the notion that through doing less women can have–and be–more.
The addiction to busyness and the obsession with always trying to do more leads women, especially working mothers, to feel like they’re always failing their families, their careers, their spouses, and themselves. This book will give women the permission and tools to change the way they approach their lives and allow them to embrace living in tune with the cyclical nature of the feminine, cutting out the extraneous busyness from their lives so they have more satisfaction and joy, and letting themselves be more often instead of doing all the time.
Do Less offers the reader a series of 14 experiments to try to see what would happen if she did less in one specific way. So, rather than approaching doing less as an entire life overhaul (which is overwhelming in and of itself), this book gives the reader bite-sized steps to try incorporating over 2 weeks!

0 stars would be more suitable
I bought this book a couple of months ago and have been trying to get into it but I just gave up. If you want a book that points to the patriarchy for all of your problems, here it is. I thought this book was about “doing less” and getting to know our cycles and inner strengths. Wrong. It’s a boring account of one woman’s struggles and the patriarchy she continually blames it on. This book does nothing to empower women, it just reinforces the idea to blame others for problems YOU need to be accountable for. Sincerely disappointed that I paid for this product, it was a gigantic waste of time and is now in my garbage bin.

  9. Learn With Lynne LLC

This is an excellent resource for working moms, even mom’s doing business! I appreciate the approach to time management of getting more done but achieving more joy, as well as dispelling the ideals of busyness.

This is a very interesting book with valuable content, including evidence, not to be overlooked.I particularly like the circular year diagram, I would link this to prehistoric and seasonal concepts of time, especially for instance, circular structures, although concepts of time may have been different then the circular seemed to predominate.Although I agree with the menstrual emphasis and theories I am menopausal, but I haven’t finished the book yet.

Do Less is a book with a high healing quotient, just as most of Kate Northrup’s work. In this book, Kate brings some never heard of wisdom to time management that’s deep yet delivered in a breezy style. It’s easy to comprehend and apply. Her concepts are unique, insightful and yield high results. I’m most thankful to Kate for helping me (and some friends who’ve read the book) to start making shifts in how we manage time and hold our power in the world (yes, there’s a connection here). I most loved her emphasis on energy management v/s time management- it’s been a winner for me.This book is packed with convincing and fresh approaches to productivity, that work! I loved how it has helped me unwire and heal productivity challenges many of which came from beliefs of a masculine work world dominated by the patriarchy we live in. It’s such a relief to get permission and the tools to manage time in a feminine way – a way that’s more aligned. And one that makes more sense! Do Less is a must-read for women – (whether you’re a) mom or not. I deeply wish many more women experience the magic of Do Less!

I’ve taken the information in Do Less and ran with it! I am not a mom, but this book is helpful regardless. I have a hormonal disorder and mood disorder (fun!), so anything that will help me feel less guilty and more spacious in my life is worth the read. I love Kat Northrup because everything she says is digestible and genuine. It also is logical, but sometimes we need someone to tell us these things for us to know that it is okay, such as saying no to things that aren’t aligned with us or relaxing during the new moon or menstruation phase. I’m such an advocate for cyclical living now, because of Kate. She also opened the door for many other experts like Alisa Vitti to come into my life. Thank you!
