    Great slow cooker!
Sears and then slow cooks all those recipes that require both steps perfectly! Only thing is that it’s very heavy. But one on the counter its perfect. Have been using it for 4 months and no issues.

Loving my precision Dutch oven from InstantPot
Amazing product for the money. The outside does get dull after washing but honestly it’s a matte finish and I was expecting this once it gets washed and used as it’s not glazed. But all in all was not a deterrent. As for usability, it gets top marks for heat retention, fast heat up and searing is reliable and fast. The meals have all come up great and I have no complaints. It does not have a low or high slow cook function option though honestly this minor flaw does not bother me as I can just go ahead and use the manual function and choose temp and time, so really not a big deal. On the upside not having to use more than one pan to sear then drop into slow cooker is a bonus everything gets done in one pan. I am loving this machine so far!

    Instant Pot Dutch Oven
Omg, so love this addition of the cast iron Dutch oven to my current Instant Pots. Have the 6 quart Max (also a pressure canner for food preservation) and an 8 quart IP. This Dutch oven makes cooking a real pleasure and a snap to perform. In true IP fashion, this Dutch oven is so versatile that’s well worth the price point. Truly an investment piece, that can be used in the cooking base or in the oven or ??? As it’s cast iron, will be able to pass it down to my children and their children to use. My best advice is…BUY IT!

    Finally
Finally someone has come out with an appliance. That actually works. It does everything and then some it’s amazing. Anyone giving this product a bad review doesn’t have a clue.

4.5 stars – great addition to my kitchen!
4.5 stars! I’m an admitted small appliance fan and this has been a great addition. I love the Instant Pot brand and I use my 8 quart and 3 quart pressure cookers often. This has a finished cast iron so washing and care is far easier than a traditional cast iron piece. The pot and lid are heavy of course. It’s recommended to use the included silicone trivet underneath during cooking. They also include two silicone handle covers for moving the pot when warm/hot. They are not to be used during cooking. This is a Dutch oven as well as a slow cooker. It also has a warming capability. My best advice is to do your warranty right away, wash it up, bring your booklet over and start pressing buttons and turning the knob. Go through your booklet and learn how to turn sound on an off, change settings, have Celsius or Fahrenheit, etc. Then look at each function by pressing its button and seeing what temps are available or preset, what times are available, etc. Manual Mode 1 and 2 have more temp options than the others where the presets may not work for your recipe. While you may start a recipe by searing meat, you may need to switch to manual mode for other ingredients. The slow cook function has a preset of 203F which is a bit higher than low on a regular slow cooker (typically about 190F). Low is better in slow cooking in most instances anyway. So if you use that function, use the directions for low. However, you have the option to go to Manual Mode if you need something else and don’t have the time for low. I do wish the slow cook function included a temperature range between low and high like a regular slow cooker, rather than going to manual mode. Either way, the job gets done though, I guess. The sear/sauté function is awesome. Searing on cast iron takes things to another level. I’ve attached pictures of tenderloins I seared and then used the braise function after. They sat upon an onion-apple mixture. They looked and tasted fantastic. One picture is cloudy due to the steam clouding the lens of my phone. The flavour profile was just amazing and the meat was done perfectly. If you aren’t familiar with braising, research it. It’s a great method. My next braising adventure will include spare ribs.It does come with a recipe booklet for some things to try. I would recommend that before branching out. Dutch oven recipes out there are for camping, the stovetop, or a regular oven. Recipes will need to be adapted somewhat. While this pot can be used on a stovetop or in the oven, the base is there so that you don’t need to. However, if you proof bread in it, it will have to move it to the oven to bake.I have already made good use of this and I know I will be using it often, just like I use my IP pressure cookers. It is pricey, but a good Dutch oven is also very pricey. In this case, you get the Dutch oven AND a slow cooker. It’s a fantastic addition to my kitchen.NOTE: While this is stated to be dishwasher-safe, I prefer hand washing to preserve its life as much as possible. Part of that is that it’s pretty heavy for a dishwasher rack. I want to handle it and move it the least amount I can to avoid dropping it onto my toes or my floor. Maybe that’s more caution than some want, but I want to protect my investment and myself. I’m also careful in how I hand-wash it by resting it on the trivet by my sink as I wash it out. Then I rinse under the tap, set down on the trivet and dry immediately. For the lid, I hold the handle and wash in the sink, rinse, and dry immediately.

I bought this cast iron Dutch oven slow cooker to replace my really, really old West Bend slow cooker. I chose this one to try because it’s Teflon-free and seems less likely to crack like ceramic liners are known to do. So far these are my pros and cons for this unit:PROS:-I will still have a useable Dutch oven when the base eventually fails.-The Dutch oven insert is compatible for use on an induction cooktop.-It comes with a handy silicone hot pad and handle covers.-It has open style handles instead of solid making it easier to get a secure grip when lifting the pot out of the base.-No need to season or re-season the interior because of the enamel coating.-It’s been rather easy to understand the controls and convert instructions from old recipes. I’m a person who hates complicated technology with functions I’ll never use, so this appliance suits me.-The depth and width of the pot works great for whole chickens and smallish or boneless turkey breasts. –The sauté function allows you to brown poultry in the pot first, cook, then make your gravy, and end with simmering a bone broth all in the same pot. I really like that!-There’s a keep warm mode that I’m very happy to have, but the pot itself also holds heat well to keep things warm for a while after cooking.-my cake pans fit in it to help press in parchment paper for bread proofing or baking.-Contrary to another popular review, I’ve been able to adjust the time and temp during cooking by pressing the temp/time light once or twice to toggle between the prior set temp & time and turning the knob to adjust whichever setting is blinking. Or you can just hit cancel and reset everything.CONS:-This is promoted as being dishwasher safe, but then the cleaning instructions recommend hand washing with mild soap to preserve the enamel coating. That’s sneaky marketing if you ask me!!-Enamel coatings will also scratch and chip with metal utensils, so tips on the Internet say to use wooden or silicone coated utensils to avoid that kind of wear and tear. Expect to soak rather than abrade cooked-on food .-Some may prefer a light interior enamel, in spite of them tending to stain, instead of the black interior these have. It makes it harder to see how much you’ve browned darker meats without picking them up out of the pot to look at. Not a problem with browning poultry in my experience and you have to turn meat as it browns anyway, so it doesn’t bother me.-The rim of the lid and pot (black) are not enameled and there are reports of issues with rust there on social media, especially if you are determined to clean in a dishwasher. That’s prevented by putting a little cooking oil on your finger to oil the edges before and after each use and drying thoroughly after cleaning. This can be a pro because these are the spots where chipping is likely to occur from lifting the lid on or off or banging a spoon on the edge.-While slow cooker liners are supposed to be heat resistant up to 400 degrees F, you shouldn’t use them for the sauté function because they are likely to melt and ruin your pot and food. Use only for slow cooking if you must, but be aware that BPA substitutes are not considered safer than BPA. Why get away from Teflon only to expose your food to other chemicals?-It takes up a lot of kitchen real estate….think half of your sink base cabinet or as much as a toaster oven that fits a 10″ square pan (my Breville mini). It’s weight might make it too much for pull out drawers in cabinets, too.-From the questions answered section:”Q: Can you leave this while at work in slow cooker mode?A: Thanks for your question! Customer safety and satisfaction is our top priority. We don’t recommend that you leave the Instant Precision Dutch Oven unattended when in use. Please always be nearby while using this appliance. By Instant Brands Support on December 9, 2021″ Really!? Who hangs around their slow-cooker for 6-10 hours? Sounds like a “covering-our-butts” recommendation, but in their defense one has to keep in mind that cooking times in a Dutch oven are likely going to be less than in other kinds of slow cookers. There’s likely going to be a need to make adjustments from the times you are used to counting on.-The cord is not detachable from the base. I wish I could put it in the pot when I’m not cooking with it.-It’s made in China.All-in-all I am enjoying this slow-cooker. It has versatility that I didn’t have with my old West Bend model and it seems relatively well-designed and made. Time will tell if the base has a decent longevity, but electronics are usually the weak spot of any appliance. You don’t need this if you already have a slow-cooker you like and have a Dutch oven pot, but if you need to get or replace a slow-cooker, I’d consider this one.

Love the versatility of this – so much better than a regular slow cooker. Searing, sauté, braising. It’s great. Also, the coating on the dutch oven makes it a breeze to clean.

I’ve only had this for two days but I thought I would post about my experience so far in case it is helpful to anyone else. I had originally processed a return of this item and just cancelled the return. I was originally going to return it for two reasons: (1) I did not notice the Q&As about lead in the enamel and I was very concerned about this. We are careful about the cookware we use and it didn’t occur to me to check for lead/cadmium in the glazing; and (2) I was not able to reach a rolling boil even after it had been set to manual 400 degrees for two hours, which was shocking. It was close (a bubble or two) but not rolling. However, I cancelled my return and am trying it out again for two reasons: (1) I’m very happy to report that my Le Creuset dutch oven fits and works exactly the same in the base, and Le Creuset tests extensively for lead and has been found to be free of lead. So even though it’s a waste to have the instant dutch oven and not use it, I won’t be using that for cooking (maybe I will as a serving container); and (2) I read a review of this product by someone else who said that you have to set the temperature and the timer to something like 15 minutes (rather than 2 hours) in order for the device to reach that temperature quickly – otherwise, it will take hours to reach that temp. I tried that today – setting it to manual2 at 400 degrees for 15 minutes and lo and behold it reached a beautiful rolling boil. I never intended to use this as a slow cooker but wanted to use this to make soups or braise stews and then keep them warm. So it seems possible now and I’m going to keep trying to see if it works. I hope this is helpful to others who may have concerns about lead or is having trouble reaching a rolling boil.
