Thick saucepan heavy bottom

This saucepan is very well made – quality made to last a lifetime. We have other pans by Made In Cookware, so we appreciate their quality.WEIGHTThis saucepan is very heavy – heavier than other cast iron saucepans we have, especially in this size. I was surprised by the weight. We have a glass cooktop, so we’re very careful when we use cast iron pans. The weight of this pan has me a little concerned about using it on the glass cooktop, so we’ll just have to be extra careful.COLORThe “antique white” color is sort of an odd color. It has yellow and pink undertones – quite different than what the item description photos show. I was hoping this would be more white, or at least an ivory color, but not something with yellow and pink undertones.FINISHThe enamel finish is done very well and makes the pan easy to clean. We have other enameled cast iron pans (made by well-known brands), but the finish on this pan is much nicer. We’ve only just started using this pan, but so far, the enamel finish seems very resistant to scratches. I haven’t used this pan on a gas stove, so I’m not sure if the flames would cause discoloration or not to the finish. The finish also makes the pan non-stick, so that also makes the pan easier to clean.COOKINGCooking with this saucepan is really a delight. Cast iron distributes the heat so well that you actually have to stir less with this pan. The lid also helps keep the heat in, which again makes the contents of the pan cook quicker. Another thing I like about this pan is that it keeps food warm for a long time after taking the pan off the cooktop.HANDLESThe extra handle opposite the main handle makes it much easier to carry this pan. Of course, the handles are part of the cast iron pan so no worries about ever having a loose handle. The handle/knob on the lid is securely attached and is very heavy-duty. The handles can get hot, so using an oven mitt will ensure your hands stay cool. This saucepan is an investment, BUT, it will last a very very long time. I highly recommend this pan!

I consider myself a creative writer. I have a monthly column in the local newspaper and I write sonnets every year. But to describe this pan, my only idea was to go a thesaurus and get fifty words that mean “stupendous” and then line them up in a row. You get the idea. But I’ll save you all that reading. But imagine that the words are there in one sentence. But that sentence still doesn’t do this pan justice. When I opened the box and lifted it out I made a gasping noise. One because it is SO heavy but also because it is beautiful beyond words. Our local university town has a very swanky and expensive cookery store and I have studied (and bought) very expensive pans there and said “meh” quite a lot. This pan is better than all of them. Decades ago I bought a Le Creuset cast iron pan with an orange outside and a cream colored inside. It was my pride and joy – until it died. This pan reminds me wistfully of those lovely colors but it is so much better finished with thick, thick glaze of a gorgeous cherry red. Almost a plum sort of color. It’s not bright red but it has depth and gravitas that makes you happy. The inside is a creamy pale custard color. I don’t want to cook with it yet I just want to caress it. Between the red outer and the cream inner, at the rim where the lid rests, there is a line of pure gray cast iron. Some types of cooking call for pan with very even heat distribution and no hot spots. Making sauces is one and rice cookery is another. I just can’t wait to make a Bechamel sauce with this made-in pan because it will be perfect. I spend an hour or two every night making the family meal which usually feature some sort of sauce so this red beauty is going to be on duty every day from now on.A few months ago I acquired another pan from the “made-in” company. I gave it a glowing review and five stars. But that was before it became my go to pan and I made delicious omelettes and all sort of other delights in it. I love it even more now. But this cerise pan is going to make me like a jilted lover as it steals my affections for itself. If you need to spoil yourself with something truly delicious, look no further.

The pot is beautiful, well made and would have received 5 stars but the product was shipped with the metal knob for the handle rolling around inside the pot without any kind of protection around the knob or inside the pot. Consequently the enamel was all scratched up. Ironically the directions say don’ts metal utensils in the pot as it will scratch the enamel off…I thought about keeping the pot as I really do like it but for 180 dollars I think I should have the chance to start off without any of the enamel scratched off. I will be returning the pot.
