My wife has been keeping an eye on this brand as she is slowly swapping out our traditional non-stick Teflon bakeware over to non-toxic. Caraway’s bakeware is coated with a ceramic coating which makes the cooking surface slick, and, thus, food does not stick to it.Caraway takes a lot of pride in that their bakeware is 100% toxic free, which means that they are free of PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, heavy metals and hard anodization. I learned on Caraway’s website that it only takes two and a half minutes for a traditional non-stick pan on high heat to exceed 500 degrees Fahrenheit and begin releasing forever chemicals. If you can bake with non-toxic bakeware, why take the chance of baking in traditional non-stick pans where toxic chemicals can leach out and build up in your body over time?The 9×13 pan, in my opinion, is an essential pan that every household needs. You can use it to make cakes, lasagna, cornbread, brownies, bars, mochi, granola bars, ooey-gooey casseroles, roast vegetables, toasted nuts, even roast a chicken in it, so this definitely gets the most use at our house.I’ve made cornbread, brownies, Mexican lasagna, and a traditional one as well, and all came out great and the first piece came out of the pan with ease. Also, just a reminder: Don’t use any metal or sharp utensils to cut your baked goods or lasagna. Always use wooden, silicon, or plastic utensils to avoid scraping and marking up your nonstick coating. The non-stick coating makes it extremely easy to clean with warm, soapy water and just with little soaking, it cleaned up like new! The depth of the pan is great…not too deep or too shallow, so nothing bubbled over the top. Everything I’ve made so far has baked beautifully and comes out like magic! The brownies were slightly crispy on the outside and nice and moist on the inside, and the lasagnas held their shape and browned nicely on the top as well.The body of the pan and handles are made out of steel, and the handles are just the right size which I can grip easily with oven mitts without having to worry about dropping or losing grip of the pan. The pan is also oven safe up to 550 degrees.Is this pan worth it? In my opinion, totally worth it. This pan is beautiful and of great quality. It feels heavier and thicker than other pans of a similar size. I got the pan in sage green, and my wife loves the color. Also included with the pan was a cork trivet.Although it is quite expensive, this pan is an investment that will pay off in the long run. You will save money over time by not having to replace it like other traditional non-stick pans and baking is much more enjoyable with the right equipment. With proper care, these pans will last a long time and perform well no matter if you’re a beginning cook or advanced. Highly recommend and would love to try out the baking sheets next!
